Why not just be a bad-ass Rebel instead?

The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’m an Obliger.

That’s my tendency. I readily meet outer expectations (stuff for others). I used to find it hard, sometimes impossible, to meet my own inner expectations.

If I say to you I’ll be there or I’ll do a thing, it’s gonna happen. If I give you my word, if I commit to a thing with you, you can trust me that. I’ve known this about myself for forever and I actually love this part of me.

But committing and following thru for something I wanted to do was always a real dud. I did not like this side of me at all.

On top of that, I also don’t like being called an Obliger. The word is not sassy or sexy, it’s not ferocious or assertive….in fact it feels rather soppy, as if I have no mind of my own.

I want to be called a Rebel. Dammit!

A rebel seems more powerful and aggressive, more bad-ass, more in-your-face-this-is-who-I-am cool.

When I look in the mirror THIS is who I see. Not a wimpy Obliger. So, what’s an Obliger to do?

Live with it. Cause hon, when it comes down to it, the whole point of Gretchen Ruben’s book* is not about the word she uses, it’s more about how I approach the things I want to do

…altho if you happen to have an in with her please let her know that Grace is not at all happy with that word she uses to describe us Obligers!

BUT…..what I know now is that I can be an Obliger yet still choose to be a bad-ass powerful Rebel in how I approach the work I want to get done.

One of the things I am using to be more accountable to myself is the calendar I created in Google Calendar, blocking off spaces in my day for tasks that need to take place, come rain or shine, sleet or wind (like the fricken postman I am!)

In order for to me to up-level my business, to move beyond where I'm at right now, to step up another rung on my ladder, I had to find a way to be accountable each and every dang day.

As always, a few questions for you…

  • How accountable are you?

  • What do you need to do or to become, in order to make sure the work you’re doing is the work you need to do?

  • What plans do you have in place so that you continue to move the needle forward?

This is my whole aim this year, to move my own needle forward. It's gonna take time and effort and serious discipline on my part plus a bit of gumption and ingenuity and perseverance.  ALL, all, all of this and so much more.

Cause the whole point is not to stay safely where you are. Growth doesn't happens in a vacuum y'all! It's one step, one reach out, one movement, one connection at a time toward towards the goals we set for ourselves.

It is a mindset shift that needs to take place AND, putting in place the actions to make that sh*t happen.

Below I share with you my weekly calendar for 2 reasons. One, to show you how easy it is to make one. And two, to help spur you on so that you can step more powerfully into the space you're suppose to take up.

What I want you to remember is that doing YOU more powerfully means the people you are called to help in your business will see you and gravitate towards the beautiful being you are, and you will begin to feel more inspired and excited to do YOUR best work.

Even if you are an Obliger.  😉

So go do you. Step up and shine love! Be that bad-ass Rebel you know you can be.
